Welcome to Year 5! We hope you have had a wonderful break over the summer holidays. I am looking forward to working with the class this year as they start in Upper Key Stage 2. This year will undoubtedly be hard work, but will hopefully be an enjoyable one. To help support your child in reaching their targets, we would like to take this opportunity to refresh your memories about a few routines:
Help and support is always welcomed in the classroom, so please do not hesitate if this is something you would like to do. All help is gratefully accepted.
If you have any issues or questions, please do come and see us, before or after school. Our door is always open.
We hope your child enjoys their time in Year 5.
Miss Hayley Warren (Class Teacher)
Mrs Alison Robinson (Teaching Assistant)
At the start of the term, we launched our topic with a South Africa themed day. We started the morning by cooking and trying traditional South African food, including biltong, babotie curry and malva pudding. We found out facts about South Africa and looked at images of their amazing football stadiums! We decorated flags and listened to traditional music.
In the afternoon, we had a special guest- Mrs Butler. She came in to speak about what life is like in South Africa and was able to answer our many questions. She taught the class the story behind gumboot dancing and by the end of the afternoon, we were able to perform two gumboot dances. We look forward to showing the rest of the school what we learned, in assembly! The children had a fantastic time in the afternoon, many of them saying that it was the best part of the day. A huge thank you to Mrs Butler for giving up her time :)
